Building Trust through Transparency

A healthy relationship between different stakeholders is built upon trust. This entails recognition of each other duties, rights and responsibilities and thus encourages accountability. Transparency is institutionalised by recording, maintaining and providing access to relevant and timely information regarding the organisation. In essence, transparency and accountability are the twin footholds of sustaining trust.

Any individual/institution can and does ask legitimate questions about voluntary organisations: objectives of the programmes, sources of funds, role of its activist, etc. Do they get answered? Not in all cases. This non-availability of information increases levels of cynicism about the sector. Most organisations do create and provide information about themselves to the donor organisations or state agencies. Unfortunately, this information generally does not reach the public. Similarly, there is no mechanism through which the public can verify the available information.

Credibility Alliance is an interface between the various actors in the sector- benefactors, beneficiaries, and the professionals.
