Member’s Contribution
After becoming a member of CA, NBJK is more serious about improving its governance as well as better its accountability and show more transparency. It adopted a better accounting package and made it more systematic.
Also, the organization has now developed a proper system for good governance and is currently developing its HR policy, which was not previously in place.
“Now our Annual report contains financial details and balance sheet.  We feel NBJK has got better recognition amongst donor agencies due to being members of CA. There are few agencies like GIVE India , HelAge India etc. from which to receive donation - a membership of  CA helps.
NBJK also have a network of small NGOs in Bihar and Jharkhand whom it provides financial and non-financial supports. Due to finding better development in organization's governance, accountability, transparency and recognition,  NBJK encouraged these organizations to become members of CA. Moreover, NBJK feels that they have also started developing a proper system of internal governance, maintaining   transparency and improving record keeping due to following the norms set by CA.
“We feel organizations like Credibility Alliance  are very much needed so that VOs/NGOs can get motivation to develop proper internal governance, financial transparency and accountability. " --- Satish Girija, Secretary, NBJK

Dear members!

Through our last newsletter we circulated Feedback/suggestion forms and received good number of responses. Some of our member organizations expressed their desire to know about training programs being conducted in their region and some more wanted to know about the good practices being followed by other organizations in the network. We hope to address these concerns through our monthly newsletter and also through our regular e-mails. We visited a number of websites and went through annual reports and found some interesting practices which we would like to share with you.

We request our members especially those who conduct capacity building workshops to share the details within our network and to work toward a common goal to strengthen the voluntary sector.

Reflection of Credibility Alliance norms in Annual reports
The idea of disclosing information and improving transparency within the voluntary sector can only be promoted if the organization desire so. Some of our members have set an example in this regard through their annual reports.  Our  member, N M Sadguru Water and Development Foundation, an organization  with a mission to develop & expand environmentally, technically, socially sound natural resource interventions has disclosed its legal information and program related  information under a separate section which says “Information related with Credibility Alliance”. Similar initiative has been taken by Vatsalya Charitable Trust which details its legal status, Board details and Auditors address. Another member of Credibility Alliance, Score Foundation has printed its detailed Audited Financial Statements along with Notes and governance related information which includes details of cost of international travel by employees. We believe there are more such disclosure initiatives by our member organizations. We appreciate and express our sincere thanks to all of them.

Disclosing information through organization’s website
Credibility Alliance member, Deepalaya has pasted its scanned copy of legal and audited financial documents on its website. It can be viewed at www.deepalaya.org .
All our member organizations who have promoted Good Governance and self disclosure mechanism through their website are requested to share with the Alliance. We could present here few of them and would be continuing with it through our future editions.

An informative website for the non- profit and for-profit sector
While surfing we came across a website that provides myriad information and links related to Non-profit and For-profit sector. The website www.managementhelp.org is a free management library that provides easy-to-access, clutter-free, comprehensive resources regarding the leadership and management of you, other individuals, groups and organizations. Many resources for nonprofits tend to be nonprofit-specific that is; they are primarily about fundraising, volunteers, public policy, and advocating.

Questions / comments/ contributions?
Credibility Alliance is a registered organization under Societies Registration Act (XXI) of 1860. As an independent, voluntary (not for profit) organization, we aim at building trust among the stakeholders of an organization such as staff, the Board, donors, volunteers, the general public and the media. We do this by advocating norms for public disclosure and good governance that will help organizations become more transparent and accountable to their stakeholders. The draft of our norms was published in 2003 in English and later translated into six other languages - Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. More than 15000 copies of this booklet have been distributed.
