Partners’ views….
Child Aid had always striven to be a genuine, reputable, and credible organization. We used to do so, however, in an informal way. By becoming a member of the Credibility Alliance, we have learned how to do so in a very organized, systematic, and formal way. This has had a very positive effect on our organization as well as on the public's and potential donors' perception of Child Aid Foundation.
We now know exactly why credibility norms must be complied with to enable an organization define itself, and be recognized as, "credible". We proudly mention on our Child Aid Foundation website that we are a member of the Credibility Alliance.

I believe that by disclosing our financial information as per the Credibility Alliance norms, we
acknowledge every time that we use public donations and also vow that we are therefore accountable for the donations that we receive.
By using Credibility Alliance guidelines, I believe that we re-affirm our commitment to the adoption of a common accountability standard across the country.

Towards A More Responsible and Responsive Voluntary Sector....
With the growing size and diversity of the Indian voluntary sector, it has become increasingly important to assess the credibility of voluntary organizations. Credibility Alliance, a consortium of voluntary organizations and networks, and its Board of Director’s are strongly committed to promotion of good governance in the sector and enhancement of its credibility in the eyes of the public.

To this end, the Alliance has, after extensive consultation within the sector all over the country, put together a set of norms of good governance based on principles of integrity, transparency and accountability. Credibility Alliance’s norms have been conceived in a three-tiered structure of minimum norms, desirable norms and good practices. It is to be adopted in a gradual manner depending on their relevance and appropriateness to an organization’s needs and stage of evolution.  Further, they will be refined, elucidated and differentiated for different functional needs over a period of time through the same consultative process.

Several examples of the Alliance’s initiatives towards improved governance include giving right to all the members to inspect the books of account, book-containing minutes of proceedings of all meetings and rotation of elected representatives in the Governing Board. Further, we will continue exploring ways to strengthen our network base and formulate policies intended for a more responsible and responsive voluntary sector.
Credibility Alliance signs MoU with YASHADA
Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA) Pune, an apex training and research institute of the Government of Maharashtra and Credibility Alliance share the common goals of promoting accountability and transparency in the voluntary sector by means of screening the voluntary organizations against a set of norms and enhancing their credibility. The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding is to achieve above goals and initiate a long-term collaboration, which could envisage these services spreading into other states, union territories and union ministries having extensive VO interface.

CA rolls out pilot project on Accreditation
Having formulated and disseminated norms of good governance, in the second phase of its activities the Alliance is focusing on establishing the credibility of an NGO through the process of accreditation. The objective of this Pilot Project would be to certify the genuineness of an NGO based on the Credibility Alliance Minimum Norms. The organizations would be classified on the basis of their size, funding and number of projects in order to have a corresponding panel of assessors. The Tribal Development Department, Government of Gujarat has agreed with Credibility Alliance to pursue the accreditation the NGOs working in the area of tribal development in Gujarat.

CA enters into tripartite agreement with CSS and GiveIndia
Credibility Alliance, Civil Society System (GuideStar International)- an international NGO and GiveIndia have signed an agreement to build a comprehensive information and reporting system which is simple, transparent and effective and can be used as a common platform to access voluntary sector database. Our members including those who do not have access to their own website can find themselves profiled on the credibility alliance website and their more detailed information may appear on GuideStar’s website.

State committee meetings held
State committee meetings were organized in the respective states in which the focal point was to discuss the agenda for the annual general body meeting (AGM) to be held on October 28th 2006 and to elect state representatives for the same. Elected state representatives would be presenting the status of credibility alliance in their state, its special problems and prospects. This would help the alliance design its future strategies.

Credibility Alliance is a registered organization under Societies Registration Act (XXI) of 1860.  As an independent, voluntary (not for profit) organization, we aim at building trust among the stakeholders of an organization such as staff, the Board, donors, volunteers, the general public and the media. We do this by advocating norms for public disclosure and good governance that will help organizations become more transparent and accountable to their stakeholders. The draft of our norms was published in 2003 in English and later translated into six other languages – Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. More than 15000 copies of this booklet have been distributed.
