HAPPY NEW YEAR 2007!!

Dear Members

Credibility Alliance has successfully completed another year i.e. Year 2006. This year we experienced few major changes within the Alliance. We shifted our head office from Delhi to Mumbai and Ms. Kriti Vasundharaa joined the Alliance as its new Executive Director. We are very much thankful to our earlier executive director Mr. Ranjan Rao Yerdoor for his valuable contribution. However, despite of the changes we are grateful to Mr. B. N. Makhija, Chairperson of credibility Alliance   for his devotion of time in the activities of Alliance and for promoting the Norms of Good Governance in India and also internationally through his visit  to Bangkok in July’2006.

In this issue we would like to cover our performance in the Year 2006 with our activity details and most importantly I would like to share with you our West Bengal State Committee’s promotion of Enrichment series in the direction of capacity building exercise.

Enrichment series “organized by West Bengal State Committee

West Bengal state committee of Credibility Alliance decided to organize a series of workshops/seminars that would help VOs/NGOs to improve their standards of Accounting and reporting system and capacitate them to comply with Credibility Alliance norms.

The first seminar was organized by Credibility Alliance West Bengal state committee and  PricewaterhouseCoopers Pvt Ltd on August 26, 2006 on “Global Reporting Initiatives” , an accounting system  Corporates are promoting within the sector. Chief functionaries and chief accountants of 26 voluntary organizations attended the seminar along with donor agencies like Lutheran World Service, Compassion India, Action Aid and also Tata Consultancy Services TCS from corporate sector.

West Bengal state committee also raised funds for their local needs and sponsored entire expense of the workshop. We appreciate the initiative taken and expect similar kind of capacity building workshops in other states too.

Regional Coordinators meeting held at Mumbai :

On 18th and 19th December’06 all four regional coordinators Mr. Robert (RC East), Mr. Vimal (RC West),  Mr. Srivastava (RC North) and Mr. Praveen (RC South) joined the meeting with the Chairman, the Executive Director and programme officers to discuss critical, operational and field level issues being faced in the area of membership, accreditation, norms, capacity building and fund raising. It was followed by presentation of activity report of respective region and self-appraisal by regional coordinators.

As suggested in Annual General Meeting (AGM) in October’06 also, it was decided that the Alliance will only focus on good organizations referred by state committees to maintain the credibility of the Alliance’s movement. Regional coordinators are requested to take strict actions against tainted organizations that either are Alliance’s member or have applied for membership.

There was a discussion on getting good response from north eastern region like Guwahati, Meghalaya and Manipur on follow up after AGM. There was also a discussion on better liaison with administration and government, norms, accreditation, capacity building and need for fundraising from various sources to carry out the exercise. Mr. Robert cited the example of Enrichment Series initiated by West Bengal state committee.

We Wish You
A Very Happy And Prosperous
New Year 2007

Questions / comments/ contributions?
Credibility Alliance is a registered organization under Societies Registration Act (XXI) of 1860. As an independent, voluntary (not for profit) organization, we aim at building trust among the stakeholders of an organization such as staff, the Board, donors, volunteers, the general public and the media. We do this by advocating norms for public disclosure and good governance that will help organizations become more transparent and accountable to their stakeholders. The draft of our norms was published in 2003 in English and later translated into six other languages - Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. More than 15000 copies of this booklet have been distributed.
