| The basis for success of the initiative is the acceptance of the norms by a large number of voluntary organizations and their commitment to follow the norms. At present there are 462 voluntary organizations enrolled as members. Credibility Alliance has a membership base of 49 in the North Zone; 115 in the South Zone; 141 in the East Zone; 84 in the West Zone; 42 in the Central Zone; and 31 in the North East Zone. |

| 1. What do we mean by Voluntary Organisation ( VO)? |

| Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Voluntary Organisations (VOs or VOLOGs), Voluntary Agencies (VAs or VOLAGs), Voluntary Development Organisations (VDOs), International NGOs (INGOs), etc are the different terms used by various organisations in the Voluntary Sector in India. They are registered under various Acts like, Societies Registration Act, 1860; the Indian Trust Act, 1882; the Charitable & Religious Trust Act, 1920, Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956, and various state level legislation (for eg, Rajasthan Societies Registration Act 1958, Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 1975, etc.) |

| 2. Who can become a member of CA? |
| Membership is open to: |
| |
- Any organization registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 or The Trust Act or a Section 25 company.
- The organization should adhere to the prescribed CA Minimum Norms.
- The organization should complete and send the Minimum Norms compliance form (available on the website, can be downloaded and hard copy available on request) along with a copy of annual report, audited financial statement, Memorandumwith the annual membership fees of Rs. 500.00 (Rupees five hundred only).

| 3. What is the membership fee? |
| |
| The annual membership fee for the time being shall be Rs.500.00 (Rupee five hundred only) and the General Body may modify the fee from time to time. The full amount of the membership shall be collected from an organisation admitted as a member within the first six months of the year that is between 1st of April till 30th of September and only half the membership amount shall be collected from an organisation admitted in the second half of the year that is between 1st of October till 31st of March. All membership shall be due from 1st April each year. (The amount CA collects through membership is intended to be used as part of the processing charges of the membership forms and in supporting its interaction with organisations.) |

| 4. What are the benefits of becoming a member of CA? |

- Recognition as being committed to a set of norms that ensures accountability, good governance and transparency within their organization.
- Access to capacity-building support to meet the requirements specified in the norms.
- Free services rendered by the Alliance , such as listing your organization in the 'Organizational Profile' on the Alliance 's website.
- Prospects of attracting greater financial and other forms of support, from different stakeholders, including the government and other donors.
- Opportunities to influence the policies and procedures of grant-making agencies including the government.
- Networking opportunities within a large membership base.
- A sense of belonging in broad and collective efforts to bring greater credibility to the sector as a whole.

| 5. What are the ways of termination of membership? |
| |
| All termination of membership shall be by a resolution of the Governing Board of CA. In all such cases the concerned member organisation shall have the right to present its view before the Board. However, the General Body shall ratify all such termination. The termination of membership shall be on the following grounds:- |
- For ceasing to comply with any of the minimum norms set by the Alliance in this regard, provided that such an organisation shall be issued a written notice 30 days in advance and given an opportunity to present it's view before the Governing Board.
- On resignation.
- On dissolution or amalgamation with another organisation.
- For non-payment of membership fees: Membership shall automatically terminate
if an organisation does not pay its membership by 31st of May every year.
- For being disqualified by the Governing Board for acting contrary to the objects
(objectives) of Alliance; provided that such an organisation shall be issued a written notice of 30 days in advance, and given an opportunity to present it's view before the Governing Board.

| 6. How will the credibility of any organisation be assessed by this body? |
| |
| Compliance to the “Credibility Alliance Norms of Good Governance” would be assessed against the Norms which have evolved through the consultative process by a 'competent authority'. Essentially, this is being done at two levels: Membership and Accreditation. Membership is based on self-certification and would involve only a desk-review by the CA team to grant membership. |

| However, accreditation is based on verification. The competent authority to do the verification is the accrediting agency, which is certified for that purpose by CA. The accreditation would be done based on CA norms of good governance. |

| 7. What is the process for an organisation to be accredited? |
| |
| CA is developing the Accreditation Mechanism and the details would be available as soon as the mechanism is ready. |
