Peer Group Review

Peer Group Review (PGR) is a physical ‘on-the-spot’ validation/ verification of Norms’ compliance, conducted by a Member on a potential member. It is an intermediate mechanism: between self-disclosure and independent validation leading to accreditation. The need for introducing PGR in Credibility Alliance:

- To engage voluntary organisations in building up the important idea of a voluntary sector that is well governed and publicly accountable.
- Adopting a participatory methodology in expanding membership base. Credibility Alliance’s membership base is its strength and therefore should involve them in its functions. PGR is a system to involve members in building the membership. This would necessarily have to be highly decentralised.
- PGR, though not a substitute for accreditation, can be one of the ways to gain recognition as a credible organisation through a much simpler process.
- Overall, it is system based on trust and mutual support and not on ‘fault finding’.
- Looking at the Voluntary organisations’ awareness on Governance issues, it becomes necessary to adopt a method which stresses on Identifying Capacity Building areas. PGR ensures the potential members, a value addition to getting themselves reviewed.
